The OMMC Team is made up of volunteers that selflessly give their time back to the community by providing pro bono services to uninsured workers in Lafayette and Yalobusha counties. Without their commitments our clinic would not be here today. Thank you to all of the volunteers that give of their time and knowledge to the people of our community. Here are some things the volunteers are saying: "You get so much more back. The patients are ideal.... they are appreciative. And you are offering them what every human being has a right to - basic medical care" Wanda Ikeda, Volunteer Nurse Practitioner |

The OMMC team has a lot of good reasons to be looking forward to 2010. Having opened in 2007 and having a great 2008 and 2009, 2010 promises to be a landmark year. We are already exceeding expectations. We are currently serving 515 patients and in 2010 we hope to raise more money for operations so that we can serve more of our community. OMMC A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out |
|
The clinic has been a revelation for nearly everyone involved since it opened in April 2007. Doug Miller serves as the President of the Board has been impressed by the monetary contribution from the community and a spreading circle of doctors and nurses giving pro bono care. Marlene Bishop, Executive Director of OMMC is struck by the number of people who haven't been to a doctor in many years.
OMMC's primary focus is treating chronic diseases and preventative care. Once patients are deemed eligible for services - they must be 18 - 62 years old, employed with no medical insurance and with an income of no more than 200 percent of the ferderal poverty level - they are screened for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The two most common diseases treated at the clinic are diabetes and hypertension and all patients treated receive all of their medications at no charge.
The clinic is so fortunate in that many local physicians who specialize in different areas continue to see our patients in their offices at no charge when referred from the clinic for services that our primary care physicians cannot provide on clinic nights. Baptist hospital processes the lab work; the Diagnostic Clinic provides mammograms and all test at no charge. It is not possible to name all those in the medical community who have stepped up to provide services for OMMC patients. Oxford Medical Ministries Clinic is truly a medical mission much like those originating in our community when community members go on medical mission trips with their church. The only difference is that those needing medical and dental care are not in some far off country, but right here in our community. Our patients are not asking for a handout, they just need a hand up.
